Sharing is Caring

Greetings!

One of my favourite pass times is to find what other people have come up in terms of creativity and who are happy to share it, so others can attempt it! Please refer to this site: https://yumuniverse.com/natural-dye-fabric/ It is there I found how to dye fabric naturally.
This is something I had been wanting to do for AGES. Ironically, I had in the same month as discovering this webpage, picked up a copy of Better Homes & Gardens where Tara shows you how to dye fabrics naturally. I had looked at the options in the magazine but didn’t have any of the natural green dying methods in my fridge/kitchen, which resulted in my search for something different.

At Yumuniverse she uses TUMERIC POWDER as an option to dye the fabric! (Of course, the fabric does need to be 100% pure.) Please refer to the link above for how to use Tumeric Powder as a dye.
I found the process super fun and even my toddler enjoyed it! We dyed it together occasionally he I picked him up to watch it simmering in the pan. Then later we washed it out together and hung it up. Because one of the pieces I dyed was a linen tablecloth it was so long that it hung close to the ground so my son and I played peekaboo with it 😊

I had also dyed a few random cuts of calico with a second batch of the turmeric dye. I’m glad I did because my linen version did not turn out that best. But my second batches of the calico turned out amazing!
(This is the linen tablecloth after it dried it left some discoloured blotches. So I'm rethinking a purpose for this one now. May need to sew some patches over it or embroider or open to suggestions!)

With a larger piece of the dyed calico I used it to make a new bag for shopping. I still had some left-over flora looking pieces from a previous bed sheet, so with the two different fabric types I decided the look of the bag would replicate a pineapple.
(It looked a tad plain and not exactly like a pineapple like this so I added some things)
See below:

Some of the remaining pieces I have I can and plan to use for other projects, once I come up with something. I was thinking of embroidering into one of them, as the fabric is a gorgeous yellow I was thinking a silhouette of a scenery where the background is a sunrise or similar.. who knows yet.
As this project worked out so well of dying the fabric I am keen to try other natural dyes!
OH! And please do check out the link above, I had read in the natural dye review part how the dyes can also be used for a natural food colouring! I plan to try that soon too!!

Thanks again for stopping by, and I hope you have a blessed week ahead.
Bye bye!
