Decorate your Place at the Table
Another new week and an ‘off’
week. Not a bad week, a week where I am back again to share more exciting
stories of success! But there have been a few recent weeks of agony and overall
‘offness’ as I had an abscess followed by tooth extraction! OUCH – to say the
least. I’m just SOOOO happy to be back to finding crafts and innovative things
to do, to make life easier. And one of those ways is through the use of
placemats!
I love placemats! They seem so
fun and girly to me. There are fabric types, hessian types, paper, laminated,
cardboard, crochet, knitted, so much variety! I guess here is where I disclose
the many various sets I already have? I have some bought ones, which were gifts
and more specifically gifts of placemats found in a specific colour tone. As I
have mentioned previously our home is decorated with a beach type theme. The
gifted placemats were a gorgeous mint tone!
Then I have a calico set I
constructed many years ago. I do like a natural look, so the calico is left
plain, with a running-writing stylised word across the bottom of the fabric.
For example, love is one of the words and is embroidered in red. Strength was
another in navy. Perseverance in gold. I came up with this idea so when we
entertain and use these placemats each person can feel encouraged and
complimented. I try to use a word that suits the person I know!
This leads to my next type of
placemat. I originally created this idea while still living with my parents!
Gosh that was a while ago. But at the time when I was leaving house I didn’t
care for this placemat set so my Mum asked if she could have it. Looking back..
that was a good move for Mum because the set is such a lovely, dainty thing any
girl should have for a tea party! Since, I have found a new supply of cut out
cardboard papers from Kaisercraft to create a new set.
That’s right. All you need are a
certain type of cut out paper/cardboard from Kaisercraft. Then ideally use
laminate, but I haven’t bothered to get one of those gadgets so I constructed
this project the hard way. Using contact. OK so it is a bit hit and miss. I
just aim for the misses to be on the underneath where hopefully no guests look
hahahaha.
This project is far easier to
explain through photos. Please refer to my photographs throughout to
familiarize yourself with the idea. Then using any pre-cut design you like – or
even make your own version. The cuts can all be the same also. I just like
different looks to match my very different teacups.
Let me know if you like to host
tea parties and with who? Always the same group or do you invite different
people? Also let me know if you think this idea would work at your next tea
party?
Oh! This is one of the perks of
being a DIY Mum, I made a special placemat for our son. Simply coat a wooden
placemat, or anything of similar size with Chalkboard paint, allow to dry and
presto! He absolutely loves it! I’m so thrilled.
(Yes the board is sooo dusty looking as I needed to keep erasing the board and letting more little doodles happen hehe)
Happy to chat and share again, I
hope you all have a very blessed week.
See you again soon ❤
(Extra Note: With the edges I leave as close to a 1cm edging of the contact, and trim it in line with the surrounding design. This way I feel it is more 'waterproof' when cleaning up after tea-parties.)
