Creating Crate-fuls
Crates, I just love crates! They are so useful to put items
in, organise with, create a beautiful rustic or coastal décor theme with. Just
so practical. I love to research and find out what others are doing with
crates. Then on a recent trip to IKEA I found two different sized crates a
larger and smaller one. And so, the trolley quickly became stacked with crates
of varying sizes. I had PLANS!
Once I got home my Husband was happy to help and they got
assembled. Although the plan was to have them assembled as a small furniture
unit, instead the pieces ended up somewhat stacked into each other, upside down
as a roof, pieces inside each other sitting strangely; it ended up looking like
a play centre. I asked my Husband about it and he said he was playing with ‘the
cat’ and he felt inspired to create something for him.
This cat is
unfortunately not well treated, in fact we’re not even sure who his original
owners are, but most of his day is spent on our back porch. Very unfortunate
because he is a beautiful cat, one like I’ve never seen before, his beige fur has
some darker stripes over top, not many though, nothing like a tiger. His tail
however is also striped and looks like a lima. This is what we’ve come to call him
Lima; when he pops around for a
visit. So yes, the crate assembly was placed outside for Lima’s amusement and
he eagerly investigated it!
After a few months Lima came and went, more so went, it was
many weeks until we would see him again. I used this golden opportunity to
‘re-purpose’ the crates towards the project I had initially wanted. My husband
and I bounced off each other with ideas for the crates and how to assemble them
into a furniture unit, and he came up with a small bookcase!
Happy creating with crates! Let me know what you decide to
do 😊
