Finnish What You Start

Nerf guns, they can be creative you know. Some people go to great lengths to customise these toys to look like real thing. Anyway, that’s not what I’m talking about here. My hubby and his mates have a collection of these toys they use for fun on each other. I tried to get involved in a couple of their rounds once, I don’t think it was really my thing. I’m not really the type to dive out literally and try to aim and shoot. If I did, I think all my foam bullets would end up in the wall rather than any actual target. I’ll stick to the arts thank you. Crates, I just love crates! They are so useful to put items in, organise with, create a beautiful rustic or coastal décor theme with. Just so practical. I love to research and find out what others are doing with crates. Then on a recent trip to IKEA I found two different sized crates a larger and smaller one. And so, the trolley quickly became stacked with crates of varying sizes. I had PLANS! Once I got home my Husband was happy to help and they got assembled. Although the plan was to have them assembled as a small furniture unit, instead the pieces ended up somewhat stacked into each other, upside down as a roof, pieces inside each other sitting strangely; it ended up looking like a play centre. I was going through my phone and found some photos I had taken on the lead up to Christmas. In my family we try to get on top of things and BAKE BAKE BAKE! Let me explain, growing up I was exposed to the hospitality of Finnish people. At least this is how it is in our Finnish family, my parents have always advised how Finnish people are very hospitable. Coffee time is when coffee tables are full of more than just coffee. This is not a time to be literal, perhaps it should bee worded Sweets Time. When there were any kind of events, birthday’s, Mother’s/Father’s Days, Christmas, New Years; you get the idea, this was the time the coffee table would shine with different baked goods to meet everyone’s tastes and desires. Last year I had already started envisioning this blog ( kind of pre-made new year’s resolution, that I guess I can finally tick off? ), and thankfully I thought ahead by photographing a few things I wanted to write about. One of these being my excitement towards Finland’s 101 Anniversary of Independence, to be marked on the 6 th of December. ( Yes, writing this is rather overdue! ) I wanted to bake something that signified Finland. I had thought of baking some biscuits with blue icing. It was then I recalled the cookie cutter set, which my Great Aunt gifted for me last year during the big centenary celebration. The set included a medium sized cookie cutter in the shape of Finland, with a small cookie cutter in the middle as the heart. Everything I am, everything I do and everything I am capable of being all speaks of God’s creation. I am His creation, created for life and living, created for purpose. It is in this way of thinking I feel everyone can express themselves creatively. God the All-Creator, made each of us in His image therefore implying that each of us can express ourselves creatively. The Bible expresses how each person was made uniquely for this purpose: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psalm 139:14-15) For myself, this means drawing, writing, encouraging others, cooking, crafting and many other things that may peak my interest to dabble in.
